When mitosis is preformed incorrectly, a cell can loose its ability to regulate cell division. The product of this can be a tumor. Tumors can be either benign or cancerous. When a tumor cell is cancerous it contains carcinoma cells. Cancer has the ability to "shut off" T cells. Cancerous tumers take nutrients from the healthy human cells. One form of cancer treatment intentionally poisons the body in order to "trick" the cancer into poisoning itself. Cancers are classified based on where in the body they initially started. For example, the diagnosis may be lung cancer, but it could be in your lungs, brain, cardiac tissue, and bone marrow. As long as it was initially in the lungs, it is classified as lung cancer.
Heart attacks are, and remain, rare among hunter and gatherer communities. The prevelance of heart attacks has increased along the years. The fatty content of our diets make heart attacks a commonality. The reason we eat so much fat is becuase, when fat was limited, those who gorged in fat when it became avaliable had a higher chance of surviving famine. Hamburger chains proliferate, diet food languishes on shelves, and excerise is something people rarely have time for. It is ironic how in the process of making a civilization where what we need is abundant we have created modern disease. Human choices affect disease significantly. If we were to limit the spread of HIV, strands that kill their host quickly would die out and strands that were slow killing would have the advantage. Collective human choices can change the entire nature of a disease.
Our society is constantly seen to be enthralled by the morbid and the, seeminly, unexplainable. One survey showed that passerbys thought that serial killings accounted for 25% or more of all US homicides. An FBI statistic released in 2013 announced that there were about 1500 murders annually in America. In reality, serial homicides only account for about 1% of all homicide crimes. Many people often get mass murder and serial killings confused. Serial killings are defined as so becuase it is the same culprit with two or more victims, and a "cool down" period in between each killing. Mass muder, is when there is the same culprit, multiple victims, and no cool down period. The reason so many people assume there are so many serial killings is because our media overuses the serial killer hyperbole in TV shows and movies.
